About Abigail

Why did you become a therapist?

I became a Therapist at the end of my 20’s.

I endured a lot of life lessons and found I was never content in my jobs or that a set career that resonated to my personality.

I found out after I completed a Masters in Science and enjoyed working in Economic Development. I enjoyed the role but found many people came to my office with stressors and a lot of life struggles.

I was not content with this being my forever career as a Director and pursued a Masters in Social work. I aligned so well to the program I immediately found it to be a fit for where I need to be in my life.

People inspire me, life has hiccups, ups and downs, and mental health doesn’t need to be stigmatized.

Residing in rural communities led me to to advocate for suicide, mental health awareness, and overall education.

What is your general approach to therapy?

I have sat in the seat myself so I understand the first visit is always nerve wracking.

I approach with empathy, but open the door to what are your goals and what style of approach do you prefer.

I always try to utilize an affirming approach but of course tailor it to what you are needing.

I’m here to get to know you, and being in rural small communities there are small things you get to know about myself too.

I am here as a resource and if we are not a fit or looking for a specific type of modality I will help you find that person.

My focus is on trauma modalities. Why? A reoccurring pattern in my office is childhood trauma or single event trauma of miscarriages, loss of loved one, suicide, an accident, medical occurrences.

I understand the toll as there is relatability.

I will incorporate a trauma modality by educating a person about the modality, what the process can look like, and when we work through it, what is a new type of way to cope with it.

That is the resourcing type of techniques incorporated into the trauma processing.

It identifies parts of ourselves that are lost in the trauma and have set needs.

You don’t have to live with the burdens of past trauma. You can find true peace and happiness.
